have been signed off work again with Labs. we were having a kitchen extension, and Ive been putting too many hours in at work, to get flexitime for days off to try and work on the kitchen, but its all got too much.
The labs itself isnt too bad at the moment, ( and doing bits on the kitchen seems to be helping the vertigo) but I am constantly expiriencing moments of anxiety, the only way to describe them is like a wave of adrenaline passing through me, like when you've had a fright, I dont like it, and dont seem to be able to control it. any ideas what to do, Im back at the docs next week, so wondered if there is anything I can take to stop this ?? thanks Steve |

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your panic attacks. I suffered form panic attacks before I got Labs and then, obviously, they got a lot worse after that! They did give me some medication for the attacks which did work but I felt they were covering up the symptoms rather than actually dealing with them. I managed to go to a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist which really helped me and now I don't really panic at all. Hope that's helpful and hope everything gets better for you soon. |

Hello Steve
I understand about anxiety---it does cause strange symptoms. If you want to go the natural root Pam suggested the rescue remedy. If it is real gripping sometimes to get you over the hump your doctor might suggest a low dosage of anti-anxiety medication just for the short term. Also as Lisa suggested CBT helps as well. Labs does put anxiety/panic attacks up a notch--especially if a person suffered from them before this illness. But it does get better Steve. My doctor suggested that walking --- even for short distances gets rid of some of the stress hormones. Drink beverages with no caffeine as this can be a trigger for anxiety---there is decaf tea and coffee and it does not affect the taste--- the buzz just is not there. Do not drink to much alcohol---we seem to get v v sensitive to these things with labs/vn. Steve I know anxiety can be scarey I have suffered from it all my life---but do not let it control you. Have some relaxing time--if you can. Hope this helps

Heya Steve,
I'm another one who's had problems with the anxiety. I agree with what other folks have said, it's also worth mentioning to your doc, especially if you'd like to go down the CBT route. The only things I can add really are make sure that your blood sugar levels don't drop by skimping on meals etc, because hunger can cause the anxiety you describe. The other thing is as soon as you start feeling like that take a deep breath and go and do something you have to concentrate on like typing an email, or doing something on the kitchen. The anxiety will decrease naturally but if when it starts you do something to distract yourself it can decrease quicker. Hope this helps, Clare xxx

thanks all for the sound advice, Ill see what the doc says on monday- the caffiene one is a good one, I like my tea, and was told to cut down a couple of years ago as it was causing palpitations.
Im also going to stop smoking next week ( only smoke one or two a day so its not worth doing anyway !!), and this will mean I cant have a drink at the weekends or i will want a fag, so Im going to be the healthiest wobbler around |

hi steve
only this morning i read in one of my magazines about a girl who suffered from panic attacks and severe anxiety since she was 14 years old. after many years she was finally diagnosed with GAD which i know some of our members have. now, im not saying you have gad, but this girls treatment may help anyone who suffers from any type of anxiety so thought i would put a link in for it. she used a method which taught her to treat the anxiety like a habit and she is now panic free, it may help some of the folk on here to have a look at it. the link takes you to the main page of the site. dont know if it will help you but it may help those who have been diagnosed with psychognic vertigo caused by anxiety. http://www.thelindenmethod.co.uk/

Hi Steve
I suffered from severe anxiety, which believe me was hell on earth. It really controlled my life to such an extent that I couldnt even go outside the house for 6 months. CBT was my saviour I believe . Its done on a one to one basis, only really had a few sessions and now am back at work full time, yes I still get bad days but can control my symptoms now. For me keeping busy really helps when the anxiety rears its ugly head. You take care and look after yourself Love

I use the Bach Flower Rescue Remedy Spray, but only if I needed it. I carry it with me at all times, and if I start getting wigged out, my heart starts pounding and I get jittery, then I squirt it on my tongue. Maybe it's a placebo, maybe it's not, but either way, used properly, it won't do me any harm, and I feel now that I've come to control my anxiety to a degree, and I'm using the spray less and less. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is the ideal solution as it deals with the problem at the root cause, but CBT's not available to me on the NHS here in Sheffield, so I've had to find alternate means of coping. If CBT is available where you are, snatch their hand off for it! Good luck, Steve xxx

ive been suffering from panic attacks too, i had one the first day i fell ill and then they dissappeared until a couple of weeks ago when i was in asda and i had a massive one. doctor has put me on a very low dose of anxiety tablets and they so far seem to be doing the trick. im still having them but there so mild i can barely notice them, in time they should totally phase out. can totally relate to how you are all feeling, there are scary and you havent really got any control over when there gonna present themselves.
