I was diagnosed 2 months ago with vertigo. I stopped getting the real dizzy spinning feelings after 2 weeks. Now when I go to bed and lay down I get bouts of that falling feeling right before I fall asleep.

It happens a few times then I finally fall asleep. Does anyone else get this?

Also my Dr. said once you get vertigo it rarely goes away and I'll have bouts of it from time to time.

Hi there

vertigo itself isnt a condition but a symptom. If you were having spinning vertigo associated with things like turning over in bed, looking up and other head movements which lasted up to a minute or so then he may have meant benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (bppv). Its good your spinning has stopped. It sounds like you are having some kind of false motion when you lie down. does it only happen on one side or both sides? I know if i lie on my bad side i can feel like im rocking and sometimes feel like im about to spin which can feel like your falling. I usually lie there till it settles then i fall asleep.

bppv can recurr for some ppl but it can be treated with an epley manouver. If you get spinning back again then you should ask to be referred to a balance specialist, normally a neuro-otologist or an ent who sub specialises in neuro-otology. they will be able to do tests to determine if it bppv you have or if it is another inner ear disorder. good luck and i hope the spins are gone for good. the false motion should settle in time.

I think that's how mine started and it caused me anxiety. I still feel that way sometimes in the midst of my bout. I think it's the positions that you might be sleeping in or the movement that causes it.

Do not sleep on right side

I need to say that about 100 times before falling asleep. http://www.dizzytimes.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif
