Sorry, just need to rant about not being able to lead a normal life while suffering with the dizziness

The main thing thats triggered my rant is the simple thing of having a shower.

I have to do it when my husband is in, as I am too worried about falling over whilst in the shower

Also, even something like hanging my washing up makes me dizzy

I am too afraid to go out to the shops on my own, I want to try tomorrow, but am so nervous

Hi! I know just how you feel about shops! am a self confessed shopaholic, or rather, i was! I find it a bit easier now through practising. I started off just by sitting in our car in the Main Street in our town. aclimatising to shops, people etc. Next day i got out of the car and stood in the street. Felt v strange to be back at shops. Then next time chose a shop that i was familiar with layout, had big windows so i could still see the outside world, chose 1 item to buy, paid then left. went home straight after, exhausted, but elated. its all about building up your confidence again, so start small and gradually build up your shopping trips. there was a couple of times i couldnt leave the car. disappointing and frustrating, but you just try again another day! Also used to find that my anxiety increased if the trip was planned days before. I tried to go on spur of the moment, when i was having a good, positive day. Lessened the anxiety! Hope this helps! Good Luck! Susan B

Hi Susan

Thankyou very much for your reply

I managed to get to the shops today (not town, just local shops), and although am knackered, feel proud of myself. Would like to look into getting a stick though, as have trouble walking for long periods

WELL DONE! Bet you so chuffed! Was thinkin of you. The more you go the easier it is. Promise! It feels like such a struggle and a trial to go, but after a few more visits am sure the enjoyment of shopping and going out will return! Remember thinkin a wheelchair would make life easier. felt like my legs made of lead. partly poor muscle tone with being so inactive, partly anxiety. As you get stronger and more confident, youll be striding to the shops!! Am so pleased for you. A huge step. Susan B

Hi all,

I can so relate to the shower. I feel as if I do MOST things now only when someone alse is around!!!! I hate this. I feel nauseas alot anymore and I just want it to all go away. I am hoping my VRT will help when I begin that next week. Mine seems to be aggrivated by alot of eye moevent as of late. Maybe its always been that way, but for some reason I am really noticing that now.

Hello Vicky

It is hard with this illness when the simple things we took for granite we need
help with. It will get better, it is just a matter of not letting the anxiety get the best
of you. I found the anxiety about falling over in the shower increased my dizziness.
I had no choice but to shower --I was alone in that one. I would sing and hum
and try to take my mind off the dizzies. I would go in for short showers and I would
make sure there was a rubber mat in the tub so I would not slip. It is all a matter
of building up your confidence.

Good for you venturing into town. You should feel proud of yourself. Keep it up
gal--and next time buy yourself a treat.

Hugs

When I've been bad I've sat in the bottom of the shower, or rested my back against the tiles. It stops the shower screen sides from 'creeping up' on me, and stops me constantly banging my elbows and head!!

Can't offer any help with the shops, I've still not conquered that one successfully , yet!
