Hi nana2

As you know, labs is caused by a virus attacking the inner ear. by now the virus will be gone but the damage it caused is permanent so your brain has to learn to compensate for this so that you can get your life back on track. as you have now been dizzy for 4 months my advice would be to ask your doctor for a referral to a balance specialist who can give you a diagnosis and you will also need to get set up with some vrt set out for you by a vestibular trained physio. vrt is the thing that will help you get back to normal. its exercises tailored to your needs which are designed to make you dizzy while doing them so that your brain will be forced to compensate. you may fnd that a specialist will tell you not to take vestibular suppresants if it is labs you have as they can hinder the compensation process if used long term. speak to your doctor about this. keep your chin up it does get better with patience and time. there will be good days and bad days as you go but with time you will notice improvement and there will be more good days than bad. hope this helps a bit.

Hi nana2

it will take more than 3 sessions im afraid hunni. you need to do the exercises religiously every day and it can take a couple of months to notice any benefits. its very hard coping with dizziness. i found it easier once i told myself yes, it is a life changing illness but its not life threatening. if you are having difficulty coping you might wanna try some cbt, ask for a referral to a counsellor who will teach you how to cope. also stay as active as possible without overdoing it as this is good vrt and will help you recover. do little things like washing dishes and going for a little walk even if its only round the garden. baby steps is the key, little and often and rest in between. it will get better but you will need to be patient and not expect an overnight recovery im afraid. meantime you have this site for support, we are always here and we understand totally what you are feeling. you are not alone. hope this helps a bit.

I have nausea, dizziness, off balance, general ill feeling, blurry vision, weakness and anxiety. I lay down nearly all day, can't do much else.

Hi desire

honestly hun, lying in bed or on the sofa all day wont help you recover unfortunately. you need to try to do even some small kinda activity each day even if its only making a cuppa or washing dishes and having a walk round the garden. you need to do what makes you dizzy for your brain to compensate so dont avoid things that make you dizzy, the more you do the less dizzy you will get over time. do rest in between and dont overdo things , baby steps all the way hun.
