Every page I've come across tells you what not to eat. But, what can we eat?

FYI, here's the list of foods to avoid Tom sent me:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Quote:
● Caffeine in tea, coffee, cola beverages (two servings per day is permissible)
● Ripened cheeses (permissible cheeses: American cottage, cream and Velveeta)
● Herring
● Chocolate
● Vinegar (except white vinegar)
● Fermented, pickled or marinated foods
● Sour cream, yogurt
● Nuts, peanut butter
● Hot fresh breads, raised coffeecakes, and doughnuts
● Pods of broad beans (Lima, navy, and pea pods)
● Any foods containing large amounts of monosodium glutamate (Chinese foods)
● Onions
● Canned figs
● Citrus Foods ( no more than one orange a day)
● Bananas ( no more than one-half a day)
● Pizza
● Pork ( no more than two to three times a week)
● Avocado
● Fermented sausage (bologna, salami, pepperoni, summer sausage and hot dogs)
● Chicken livers
● All alcoholic beverages ( If you must drink, take no more than two drinks. Less likely to cause problems are sauterne and Riesling wines, Seagram’s VO, Cutty Sark, vodka)[/b]
I've written a more compact version of that list (possibly with a few things added in), but that still says what NOT to eat - doesn't really help when you need to pick something!
Does anyone have helpful tips? Or anything else related to the migraine diet for that matter, I figured this could serve as a diet-talk thread.

Trans...

I make chicken, or a roast...cut the meat...and add lettuce and tomato..and have sandwiches all week. Love apples, homemade applesauce...add some sugar and cinnamon. You can have ice cream, loads of veggies and fruits...You can have homemade pound cake...or angel food cake...

How is that for a start?

I suggest compiling a list of the foods you can eat, and make it a fun (although, challenging) activity to go to the book store or look online for different recipies. I like www.allrecipies.com this is one where you type in your main ingredients and the site will produce pages of different recipie ideas based around the ingredients you put on your search. There are a lot of good websites where you can do this. I have done it this way when my husband was on a low iodine diet and for my low sodium diet.

It always seems like we can't eat anything because we are given a list of foods not to eat. I think a list of foods we CAN eat should be included too!

things get even more depression when you consider all the hidden sources of MSG. I thought I was doing good with the diet until I realized all the MSG I was taking in without knowing it.

I got real excited to find one flavor of ice cream in the whole world that is considered MSG-safe: Hagan Daaz vanilla.

If you want to see more about MSG-ridden foods, go to truthinlabeling.org

Hmm.
"Fermented sausage (bologna, salami, pepperoni, summer sausage and hot dogs)" and "Pork" is on the list. Are there porcine meats that are OK?
I've noticed that cutting them all out is pretty much impossible for me, I have nothing left to eat!

I don't think these are as common in the US/UK, so I'll add pictures to make things clear.
Both are porcine (pig) meat.

Kassler: http://www.folkbildning.net/storumanfhsk/j...1.0/kassler.jpg (I suppose this goes under "pork")

BTW, what about bacon? This kind: http://www.uncrate.com/men/images/2006/07/...f-the-month.jpg

Anyone know which of these, if any, are "allowed"?

Hi

We thought it would be a good idea to have a list of ideas for replacements/substitutes for our favourite foods in order to comply with the migraine diet. Please could anyone add any they think of or correct me if I am wrong on anything?

Mature Cheese can be replaced with cottage cheese, cream cheese, ricotta and American cheese

Tea and coffee Can be replaced with Red Bush Tea, herbal teas that don't contain orange, lemon or raspberry

Onions Can be replaced with spring onions, leeks and shallots

Chocolate Can be replaced with white chocolate (containing no cocoa) or toffee

Yoghurt Can be replaced with Muller Rice or Mousses

Orange juice Can be replaced with Apple Juice or cranberry juice

Coke Can be replaced with lemonade if it doesn't contain Aspertine

Hello,

Crisps can be replaced with kettle crisps that dont contain any MSG (check ingredients for things like onions etc)
