Hi Meeshyell
As far as I know labs does cause hearing loss - it's not just Meniere's that does. I think with Meniere's the hearing loss is progressive so you should have noticed some kind of change I would have thought. Also with Meniere's you get severe disabling attacks of vertigo that last for hours and then go again. If Tom is reading this, he will probably be able to give you more information. |

Hi mee
as far as i know, with labs you get hearing loss which can be permanent and with vn you dont get hearing loss. not sure how the hearing loss goes with menieres but from what i have read on meniers on tim hains site, with menieres you get spinning which lasts up to 12 hours at a time during which he advises you lie still and concentrate on looking at a static item. hopefully this other doc will be able to give you a proper diagnosis. chin up hun, we are here to help you through this.

Thanks Pam and Agnes for the quick reply ! I am so dam upset right now.......
I have never had severe spinning ! and with this last bout of dizziness , this is the only time I had ever felt that I must stay in bed and it was 24/7 ! it started with slow dizzy lightheaded spells for about a month and a bit I was still able to drive!! then turned into the spinning sensation in my head , then after about 10 weeks i think I went off balance with the rocking swaying motion wich was visible ! but this was about 2months after I felt pressure in my ear for the first time wich also has not been constant and when it would go away I was still left feeling dizzy/lightheaded , I have not noticed any hearing loss since the first time I was told in 2003 not any worse than it ever was ! also with Minieres......... Last Jan 2007 for about 3 months I faught pnumonia and brochitis, when that started to clear for me I felt lightheaded for about 2 weeks , I can remember walking down a long hall to my apt trying not too look at the carpet (checker pattern aghh) as that would really throw me off ! but even then this last bout was nothing like that ! im so lost and confused ! I appreciate everything ...... I got out of there and had an hour drive to get home I just cried and wanted to get home and vent ! thanks for listening |

Meeshyell,
I did ask on the dizzy diary how your appointment went but now I know! As already said I was under the impreassion that you get gearing loss with Labs but not with Neuronitis. I understood this to be the main difference between the two. I got told a few weeks ago by a GP who used to work in ENT that he thought I had Menieres...when I saw the specialist a week or so later he said "absolutely not"!! The specialist I saw when through the symptoms of Menieres with me and I am desperately trying to rack my brain to remember what he said but I cant. The only bits I can remember if it helps at all is that the pressure in the ear felt by sufferers of Menieres comes on with a spinning vertigo attack and then goes when the vertigo goes. I do hope you get a proper diagnosis soon it sounds like this guy was just making random guesses. Love

Hi Mee
Sorry to hear that you are feeling so low after your appointment.Hang in there,he hasn't sent you away without a referral and that is brilliant,Menieres is a fluid related inner ear disorder with spinning vertigo attacks lasting minutes to days without the 24/7 symptoms in between. So he might have picked up on the fluid being related but as he says he does not specialise in this so is sending you through.I have had the menieres diagnoses thrown at me too at one stage, and send on my merry way,no referrals no nothing.Know is frustrating that the waiting game is starting again till you see the next person but it might be a great thing that he is sending you through , see it as another step in the ringt direction and don't get to hung about the menieres diagnoses till you see someone that specialises in the inner ear. The nystagmus was never visible for me either ,that does not mean that it is not inner ear related or that it can't be anything else then Menieres.Don't get down about it Mee,you got an appointment out of it to see someone that specialises in the inner ear and vestibular disorders and that is what really matters ,try to keep the spirits up as you were doing so well, concentrate on feeling as best you can with the dizzies for the moment and don't let the diagnoses get you down till you see the specialist, who you might not have got to see if it had not been for this appontment. All the best Moppie

Thank you Julie Anne ! The last time my ears felt pressure/full was 2 weeks ago , I was not dizzy at that point although a few days later I became light headed and still am today !
Did you get another diagnosis after all ? Moppie thank you as well, I have not been symtom free whatso ever including my 3 weeks of greatness last month , i stll had some tinnitis and odd weird feeling , Im sure this is fluid related , I have been given so many diagnosis''s now its so frusterating sinunitis then eustachian tube blockage to labyrinthitis to definatelhy not labs told it was serous otis media ? then was told allergies to the now minieres ! the audiologist did the test where he checks the ear drum and said it was not middle ear, and stated that it showed there were no leaks....... I am glad to be sent to the next step , i was hoping so badly for this to be nearer the end , but I guess not so quickly , I have no idea how long this will take but he said he would personally right out the referal and get it in asap, and stated he was the best of the best so i will keep my fingers crossed and keep trying to breath ! I have not made it to the dizzy diary as of yet , so I hope you are all well ! |

My opinion is that the reason you will get so many diagnoses is because they don't really know whats wrong. It's so easy to just throw a name of a disease or dysfunction at you rather then really looking at you.
The first time I went, the ENT checked my throat, nose, and ears then after 5 minutes of talking to him he prescribed me ativan, told me the pressure in my ears is normal, and learn to live with it. My suggestion to you. Your symptoms are normal, so take an ativan and relax! Some doctors are ![]() Just know your not the only one....

Was wondering , Julie anne ! when he told you that it was minieres did he say why ? do you have inner ear nerve damage ?
and with labyrinthitis I have just read it can cause permanent hearing loss, but what part is it that is actually damaged ? is it the inner ear nerves ?? is it still possible that with the damage that I have in my ears that it could possibly be labs still ? or am I screwed and stuck with Minieres ? guess Im grabbing at straws but I m still wondering and have so many questions....... |
